Time for Riesling to shake off its frumpy image! Here’s why!

1. What is it famous for?

It is one of the greatest – and most underrated – grapes in the world. It makes brilliant wines with high acidity levels, which age well. It’s made in many styles from dry (trocken in German – you might see that term on labels) to amazingly sweet, but always refreshing wine. The wines usually have lower alcohol levels.

2. Where does it grow?

Germany is the most famous place in the Old World for Riesling, where the wines are full of floral-apple blossom characters. In Austria, the wines are slightly riper and peachier.

Riesling has made a great New World home in Australia’s Clare Valley. Here, you find more sherbet, lime and violet flavours/aromas.
